Angels R' Us
Angels R’ Us Program
A Fund of Beaver County Cancer & Heart Association
Angels R’ Us became a part of Beaver County Cancer & Heart Association in November of 2003. Angels R’ Us was founded by Board of Directors member, Tracy Horvath, after her niece was diagnosed with cancer. The purpose of this fund is to assist Beaver County families who have a child that has been diagnosed with cancer or a life threatening heart condition. We help with the gasoline expenses.
- Children are referred to the program through Children’s Hospital, the pediatrician and/or the school nurse. An application is sent and a letter from the physician stating the diagnosis is required.
- In 2006, we were able to expand Angels R’ Us to include the children in Beaver County who have a life threatening heart condition.
- We have touched 56 families in Beaver County through the Angels R’ Us fund. Of those 56 families we currently are helping 25 children, 9 children are now over the age of 18, 12 children have moved and unfortunately 10 children have passed away.
- In 2009, we further expanded the Angels R’ Us program and created the Roxsan’s Dream Fund. This fund was made possible by the Roxsan Betters Albanese Foundation. Through this fund, these children’s dreams are granted. The children are/or their parents are asked to write an essay answering the question, “My $500 Dream is?” The mission committee of Beaver County Cancer & Heart Association reviews each essay and makes the recommendation to the full Board of Directors for approval. Once the dreams have been approved, we will shop for the items requested or make the necessary arrangements. For example, one year a child asked for tickets to the Pittsburgh Zoo along with back to school supplies.
